Stable, complete, simple, and secure. Me Like!

Ive been using Diary for several months now. I installed it after comparing it with similar apps, both on and off the MAS, and Ive been very satisfied with it. This version looks to have resolved a minor glitch that caused Diary to unexpectedly quit due to an error with the Garbage Collection Work Queue, a system component. I havent been able to get Diary to crash with this version. It wasnt a big problem anyway, because I have it set to auto-save frequently; but now it seems to be resolved. That was my only complaint with this app, so its five stars because its perfect for me! Its stable. Its encrypted. It handles journaling and tags without bloated features. And, the interface is efficient and simple. Focused. Also, the developer is very responsive. It just works.

Diary as a replacement for MacJournal

The early versions of MacJournal were easy to use, simple and initially free but, alas, not compatible with Lion. When MacJournal went to a $35 upgrade that had far too many features I looked around and found Diary. Diarys not free but it is simple and easy to use. I recommend it.

Useful for fun times, sad times, and contemplative times

It has always been the case that I am able to "let go" of racing thoughts by writing them. Diary is a diary, but more. I can add photos of places and people that are the inspiration, sore point, or trigger to my thoughts so that my contemplation goes deeper. I am letting go of the past yet reminding myself of my strengths by being able to add images and videos that have been my muses. LOVE this feature! One request:: are you able to create an iPhone/iPod Touch app that will sync photos, videos or notes into the primary App? I carry my iPod Touch with me everywhere. My laptop... eh... not so much. It would be so cool to add happenings and reminders of my day from my iPad, synced through the Cloud!

So simple its missing some important items..

…such as the ability to just look at a journal entry and see the phots and uploaded video. I originally had an app on my ipad that was a journal app - it allowed me to add photos directly into my entry and gave me a choice of backgrounds/colors for the interface. This app has neither of those "dressing up" items. Its simple and white and I might as well just being typing a text document. It really annoys me that I cant view the photos in the jounrla entry - they only show up separately as attachments - this seemed so wrong to me that I must have spent 20 minutes trying to figure out how to view them in the journal entry itself - until I realized that you cant at all! Im writing this review as Im back on the app store looking (a little more carefully this time) for a journal application that will also allow me to create more of a scrapbook - lots of writing, but also photos and backgrounds that make the entires look nice, in case I ever want to print them out for hard copies or put them in a book of some sort for my kids some day. I dont mind spending a little more for a program that does everything I want. This one is nice enough, but just very barebones.

Wanted something new

Well, I purchased this app after having used Day One for quite some time, and I wanted the ability to mix things up a bit with attachments and the feature of location services and whatnot. As another reviewer mentions, the attachments are separate from the post, and cannot be inserted into your document. I can see some benefit to this, but why it doesnt support in-document attachments/photos is beyond me. I do very much like the location service, so you can see exactly where you were when making a particular entry, but none of these extras are enough to pull me away from using Day One.

More Girly Please!

I like that the application is simple but sometimes it can be a little to simple. Its ease of use means its missing all the bells and whistles that I can add to a hard copy. You cant edit the background or add pictures that will show WITH your tec=xt. So if i want a picture for just one paragraph, I cant view it next to it, I have to open a seperate attachment. I cant chose my own font or color. Also, I used to love the old icon we got with a cute brown journal. Now it just looks like an old 2-bit icon, like its from the old Suoer Mario or something, what gives?? Please add more personalization features! =)

So so

Somewhat decent. Only bought this to see which photo diary was better and I can assure you, Day One is far superior in every aspect.

More selection for font please

I love the overall look and feel of the app. The only reason I give this 4 stars is because I am having a hard time typing entries with such a small font. If there is an ability to adjut the font size for the next update, that will be great! It is very difficult for me to read and write small fonts without adjusting overall screen resolution on mac. Suggestion: is there a way for us to add or adjust background for the diary? Blank is nice, but having the option besides blank is also great. Thank you!

I forgot my password

i totally love this app but i forgot my password :(

confused…

How in the heck do i decorate it.. the example one has a bunch of prety stuff on it.. mine is just plain !

iPad or iPhone???

Any plans for an iPad or iPhone version that could sync with my Mac at home???? Till then only 4 stars. Otherwise I love it.

Not all it is cracked up to be :(

From the reviews that I read, I thought I would really like it. I have been using it for a day now and it is not as good as I hoped. The pictures above make it look cool and that you can jazz it up a bit but there are no options for that. You do not have the option to dress up the app. That is one thing I really hate about it. The pictures are way more interesting then the actual app. Do not waste your money on it. If you are looking for something plain and boring to type in then this is perfect for you but if you want something fun and interesting then chose something else. Not worth the 2.99 I paid for it.

i like it but...

I like this app a lot. I go on it every day from my macbook and type an entry, the only thing is that i cant figure out how to set a password!

I love it

After having used this application I love it. I didnt need anything crazy, i just wanted to write. This is simple, elegant, and useful. If you actually know how to use this app it is great.

app

how do you change passwords

How to set password??

I still havent figured out how to set password.

Years of use

Ive been using this app over two years now. Other than not being able to format italics in the texts of entries, it does everything I want. It seem secure enough, syncs with Dropbox, and the entries are searchable. Highly recommend!

Password

I forgot my password and need to start writing again. How do I fix this?

This is a great app…would be even more awesome if it was on iPad

I really do not have anything to complain about with this app. It is simple, and easy to use. It does exactly what I want it to do. I write in this journal about everyday. It would be awesome if this would come out on the iPad so that it could be more portable! I don’t always have my macbook on me, but I more than likely have my ipad on me. Just a thought!

Disappointed

Ive clicked in this app everywhere & it never asks for a password. Mine is not protected.
